This is the uncoded service pack of the 8-cut flat face ignition lock cylinder used on many different models since 2000, beginning with the 2000 Focus, and continuing through some 2019 models. There have been at least 5 different original Ford part numbers that are used over the years that are similar in design, slightly different appearance but very similar in function. We have researched this in depth including comparing the lock cylinder application to the switch and housing applications to see if that many different variations are really necessary. We have found that all of these different Ford part numbers can be consolidated into one part number which we now offer as part no. C-42-197.
One obvious difference between the different Ford original part numbers is that some come with a large black retaining clip that attaches to the end of the plug, and some do not have this clip. Some of the switch and housing applications are designed so that a lock with this clip attached cannot be inserted. For housings that are designed to accept the lock with the clip attached, it seems that the clip serves no purpose except for an interlock against the lock being forced out of the housing. This is important on some of the designs which the plug does not need to be turned in order to depress the retaining pin that holds the cylinder assembly in the housing.
We have actually installed our C-42-197 on switch and housing assemblies tied to all of the different variations of Ford original part numbers of this type of lock. As such we are confident that our C-42-197 will successfully replace all of these Ford variations, even though it may look slightly different from the old lock removed from the car.
C-42-197 is the non-sidebar design lock, which even Ford parts and service has used to replace the failure prone sidebar locks originally installed on the Focus and Escape from 2001-07. C-42-197 also includes tumblers and springs for assembly. Ford part numbers that are known to be serviced by C-42-197 are as follows.
